Siberia

Siberia is as vast at two times europe, stuck in between arctic regions in the north and dry continental belts in the south. Taiga forest Mostly covers the immense territory spanning from the Ural range (west) to the Bering Strait (east). In collective memory it bears an unfortunate poor image due to the cold and stalinism that does not equate the beauty, intensity and richness of the land. With a very low population density, most of the territory is emptiness, deep wilderness. And the people’s life and culture have adapted to live around and with it. Its coal, petroleum, diamonds, gas, gold or iron ore resources are enormous incentivising a rapid mining development in the second half of the 20th century. The more southerly portions of Siberia produce wheat, oats, rye and sunflowers.
