Siberia Survival Experience

If you thought you knew what to do in case of survival in the forest, well…, you have been lying to yourself. The taiga is the master of deception: the sunset over the river and the salmon dancing in the fire were just a dream. Wait for the bears, the relentless mosquitoes, the vertical swamps and to be permanently cold and wet. And you will realise how much you need to learn. If you were looking for special, we mean really special, this is it. Here everything obeys the laws of nature and there are more chances you will meet a wild animal then a man. So don't let your guard down. It might be time to plan your next move. But which one?

As it is proper survival we give you no food, no shelter, no aid... and you will have one tool only. Let’s see how far you can go… Suddenly time perception will change and soon the essential will be how you manage to balance energy spent to its outcome. And that line can be extremely thin sometimes. But it’s for your to find out. 12 days seems short while reading this, but with nothing in the stomach or a roof over your head, it will feel like eternity.

So… see you at the gate of hell?

Adults only

Physical condition —

Must be in excellent health and physical condition as there are 12 days in difficult and challenging environment, while underfed and under a fair bit of stress.

This experience requires you to —

Withstand fear and mental pressure, be disciplined but creative. Be a solution finder rather than a surfer. Be able to cope with cold nights, tiredness and hunger. Not be bothered by isolation and what it does to your mind. You have to be ready to eat and sleep in primitive conditions, manage well with limited hygiene. You need to be able to power through exhaustion and deal with tunnel vision. You have to accept not to own anything . You need to accept to lose yourself. You have to be experienced in outdoors life. Finally you have to be ready not to communicate or be in contact with loved ones for a substantial period of time.

You are met at the Irkutsk International Airport and driven into town where you settle into accommodation, and visit town. You will use the leftover time to prepare your first night in the Taiga’s wilderness! Your experience starts.

Good to Know About This Survival Experience

In Siberia vegetation is mostly Taiga (coniferous forests consisting mostly of pines, spruces, and larches) and a temperate forest zone in the South. The area where we take you in sitting halfway on this belt with a nice mix. In this region, like in most Siberia, climate varies dramatically. It typically has fairly warm summers lasting at least four months and long cold winters. Summer days can reach up to 30*C and winter days up to -30*C.
Made of forests, rivers, mountains, plains, hills, swamps the Taiga landscape is quite varied. Rivers tend to flow to the north and mountains tend to have a north/south arc.
While in town in Irkutsk: restaurants with typical Russian cuisine. Restaurant with International food. We try to introduce you as much as possible to the traditional or local cuisine.

While on Survival: only what you can hunt, fish, forage, collect, pick. This applies to water too.
While in Town or in the country side: private mini van, taxis, walking.

To the Survival site: private Van, hovercraft boat, and walking.
This is a difficult experience: warm during the day, cold at the night, drenched when it rains, hungry and thirsty most of the time, often scared.

The experience takes you back to basics, straight to the core of the elements. It is a very challenging experience that strips you from the usual you to push you out of your comfort zone.
Though the setting is idyllic, the Siberia Survivor Experience is not for everyone: it is not for those after a tranquil relaxing holiday. It is definitely for those that want to test their reaction to all kinds of situations and see how far their body and mind would cope.
Safety and security is paramount to our business.

We prepare for risks by minimising our exposure to them and by being very knowledgeable about our area but also using trusted and competent local teams.

Siberia is vast and varied but it is a calm place. And being isolated in the wilderness make it even better. There are hardly any political risks. Some human risks like in any other place around the world. The only real dangers come from nature (bears, rivers, forests, etc.), the weather (unforeseen storm, flash floods, etc.), the 'unpredictable' (sinkhole, falling tree, etc.) but also human attitudes (angry gold miner, drinking too much, etc.). You will be briefed on all the above upon arrival.

But honestly the biggest security challenges are the ones inherent to trying to survive. Challenges are not only in surviving daily, but more importantly, in managing the remoteness and your colleagues. Remember that our guide will inform you as you go and make the decision that are required to reduce risks, and that includes to get you out of the island. The group has to follow the guides' decisions at any time.
  one English speaking survival guide for up to 6 people;
